Education

Educational programming is another strand of services provided by Fresh Start. In some cases, this may involve the completion of an academic subject(s), however, it may also include education to help youth learn skills to become employable and live independently. Fresh Start employs an accredited teacher to provide same.

The education component of Fresh Start is offered every Tuesday throughout the school year.

Academic Credits
We assist youth in completing a subject(s) to attain credit for a grade level standing. This is done in collaboration with the Swift Current Comprehensive High School staff and other programs within Chinook School Division.

Skill Development
Youth are taught basic social and academic skills that prepare them for employment. This involves developing a social skill set to help youth interact effectively with others in the work place. Instruction also includes further development of numerical and/or writing skills.

Fresh Start also provides a Life Skills course that is specific to young people living on their own. It addresses issues such as:

  • Resume and job application

  • Securing a place to live

  • Budgeting

  • Contemplating their future

  • Praesent bibendum felis nec turpis fringilla suscipit.

Driver Education
Through Fresh Start, youth have opportunity to secure a Learner’s License. Fresh Start provides the thirty hours of in-class instruction required prior to writing the exam.

When a participant is sponsored by Chinook School Division, six hours of in-car instruction may also be provided.
